Citizen Science Association
CitSciVirtual Student Support, Scholarships, and Fellowships

Supporting the emerging generation of leaders and thinkers in this field.
The Citizen Science Association (CSA) and CSA’s Environmental Justice Practitioners Working Group are offering the following support for students to showcase and advance their learning and leadership in the fields of citizen and community science.
Students – defined as those who are actively pursuing a degree (from Associates through terminal degrees such as PhD) – are encouraged to apply for any or all of the three following opportunities for which they are eligible. Principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will be applied in considering applicants.
- CitSciVirtual scholarship: open to all students (see above) facing financial barriers to participation. If chosen, scholarship includes one free year of membership in the Citizen Science Association and free access to the CitSciVirtual events in May. Apply by May 1st for attendance in the full month of events.
- CitSciVirtual Earth & Space Sciences networking support (up to 20 available): open to all students who are under-represented in their field of study and who are pursuing research in Earth & Space Sciences (support for this opportunity is through NASA funding). Applications accepted from all degree levels; priority given to students pursuing advanced degrees. If chosen, this opportunity includes one free year of membership in the Citizen Science Association, free access to the CitSciVirtual events in May, and $150 to cover any logistic costs incurred by participation. Apply by May 1st for attendance in the full month of events.
- Community Science Youth Leader Fellowships (2-4): open to students enrolled at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) who apply for one or both of the above opportunities. Eligible students can additionally apply for this opportunity using the same form, and can apply through May 20th. The Fellowship will entail participation in CitSciVirtual and CSA membership engagement opportunities as a youth leader, helping to shape the future of this field and Association. It will also include mini-grant support for each recipient, and a faculty member mentor at their institution, to pursue community science research local to the HBCU over the 2021-2022 academic year. Successful fellows will additionally be supported to share their research at the 2022 conference of the Citizen Science Association.
To apply for any or all of the above opportunities, please use the following form and fill out the sections appropriate to the opportunities you are pursuing. The form is fairly brief.
