Bringing Your Project’s Data to Education Audiences

with Sean O’Conner from BSCS Science Learning / FieldScope

Join us to hear how BSCS Science Learning has approached this issue with their FieldScope platform and Invitations to Inquiry with FieldScope lessons for middle and high school classrooms. BSCS will be joined by project partner Susan Sachs, education coordinator from Great Smoky Mountains National Park to hear about their recent on-boarding of long-term monitoring citizen science datasets into FieldScope.

Launching the Foundational Tool in the Toolkit for Data Ethics in Citizen Science

Nonprofits, government agencies, and research institutions are using GIS to collaborate while building volunteer networks that reflect the communities located within project areas.  Some are sharing stories about racial inequity in their communities and advocating for policy change, others are doing analytics to better model outcomes.  This “Ideas to Action” session focuses on how you can get started using ArcGIS StoryMaps to enhance communicating your community science project initiatives.  A story can effect change, influence opinion, and create awareness—and maps are an integral part of storytelling.

Create a community data collection app using ArcGIS Survey123

with Charmel Menzel, Esri

This “Ideas to Action” session is focused on non-developers that want a straight forward way to generate a form that is easy for community scientists to access while collecting valuable data online or offline.  You will view existing ArcGIS Survey123 forms utilized by various organizations for crowdsourcing and learn what it takes to build a form.  Plus be an active volunteer by collecting data and visualizing results.  Resources on how your organization can get started will be provided.

Citizen Science in Higher Education

with Heather Vance-Chalcraft from the CSA Education Working Group and USE Cit Sci Network

This discussion will include the goals we have for using citizen science with undergraduates, examples of the varied ways we use citizen science, and the benefits we feel its use provides to students, instructors, and society. Resources and tools available to help implement citizen science will also be featured.
