Are you a graduate student working in the field of participatory science who:
- Uses participatory methods?
- Studies the phenomenon of participatory/citizen/community science?
- Works for an organization that supports others’ engagement in participatory science?
- Is engaged in participatory science in literally any other way?
A new Participatory Science Graduate Students Group of the Citizen Science Association (heads up: this name is changing*) will provide a space for students like you to find and connect with others who have shared interests, challenges, and aspirations.

And we want your help co-creating it!
The Citizen Science Association will be hosting two virtual introductory meetings this fall to start planning what such a group might look like. You would only need to attend one, but we’re trying to hold multiple times to accommodate different people’s schedules. To participate in one of these meetings please RSVP below to receive connection details.
- Wednesday September 13th from 2-3pm Eastern (register on Zoom for this date)
- Tuesday September 19th from 4-5pm Eastern (register on Zoom for this date)
What could this group look like?
We want to provide a place where participatory science graduate students can come together to find community and support. Potential activities include:
- Webinars and discussion sessions on engaging in community-based work
- Webinars and discussion sessions on communicating about the data quality or value of participatory science to your colleagues
- Work-out-loud sessions where you can receive feedback on findings, papers, and presentations from other folks who are familiar with participatory science
- Networking events with members of the CSA board
- In-person get togethers at conferences
- Whatever else might be helpful or supportive to participatory science graduate students
Any questions?
If you are unable to attend either of these meetings, but are still interested or if you have any other questions or concerns, please email Dani Lin Hunter at danilinhunter@gmail.com. Feel free to send any ideas you may have for the group as well.
*Over the course of the ‘23-24 academic year CSA will change its name to affirm the broader identity of an Association Advancing Participatory Sciences. Details on the name change can be found here.
