Help Shape #CitSci2021

Return to Blog

We are one year out from our 2021 conference and excited to be ramping up planning activities. In light of COVID-19 this event will have new and additional dimensions still in development, giving us lots of opportunity to shape the formats we use to offer an engaging conference in May of next year.

There are many opportunities to get involved and help shape conference activities. We are currently seeking applications for leadership positions in various sub-committees to address conference needs such as communications, networking/engagement, equity, students, and virtual conferencing. Chairing a conference sub-committee is a great way to grow as a leader in the field and have a voice in key conference issues.

Position descriptions and time commitments are outlined below. Anyone applying for a leadership position with the CitSci2021 conference should be active members of the CSA.

If you are interested in getting involved with general conference planning and are not yet on our list, please reach out to conference_cochair[at]citizenscience.org for more information.

CitSci2021 Conference Committee Vice Chair

The vice chair of CitSci2021 will assist the CitSci2021 chair in all activities related to conference planning. This includes development of the call for abstracts, planning of conference themes and strands, overseeing abstract review, developing the conference schedule, working with presenters and volunteers to help them prepare for the conference, and developing and implementing a conference evaluation. In addition to assisting with planning and implementation of CitSci2021 activities, the vice chair is expected to develop the skills necessary to play a primary leadership role in CitSci2023. The CitSci2021 vice chair will likely be selected as the chair of the CitSci2023 conference and as the chair emeritus of the CitSci2025 conference. As a way to gain a full understanding of the conference planning and committee process, in addition to acting as the vice chair for the conference as a whole, the incumbent will be asked to serve as chair or co-chair for one of the conference program sub-committees (e.g. poster session co-chair, individual talk co-chair).
