Under the direction of the Texas Master Naturalist Program Director, this position is responsible for developing and coordinating citizen science and monitoring programs for species of concern and greatest conservation need in the state. Responsibilities include identification and prioritization of species of concern/greatest conservation need; defining biologically appropriate monitoring strategies; developing resource materials for monitoring programs; recruiting, networking, and supporting experts to enhance citizen science programs; conducting training programs for volunteers, conservation organizations, and agency biologists; recruiting, training, and managing volunteers; conducting program publicity, and compilation, analysis and presentation of data. Engages agency employees and Texas Master Naturalist volunteers to increase and diversify participants in volunteer and crowd-sourced data collection and monitoring programs. Other duties may include the development of monitoring efforts which aid in providing more intensive research and application of conservation strategies. Serves in a technical advisory capacity to conservation planning efforts regarding these and other species and provides support to the Texas Master Naturalist Program. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
