The Department of Natural Resources is hiring three (3) Natural Resources Educators in Madison at our Science Operations Center. Snapshot Wisconsin is a volunteer-based program for wildlife monitoring using a statewide network of trail cameras. The Natural Resource Educator will assist the Snapshot Wisconsin team in volunteer recruitment, outreach and trainings, and responding to volunteer questions in a timely manner. A job duty summary can be found below.
Volunteer management: Volunteers are at the very center of Snapshot Wisconsin. The person in this position will interact with Snapshot Wisconsin volunteers by answering questions via phone and email and reaching out when they are behind on their tasks.
Training: Snapshot Wisconsin volunteers must attend an in-person training session or complete online training before they can put up their trail camera. The person in this position will assist at in-person trainings by signing in volunteers, preparing equipment, answering questions, and giving presentations. This part of the job requires travel, occasionally overnight. Additionally, this person will help update existing online training materials.
Recruitment and education: As the program spreads statewide, this person will help recruit new volunteers and educate the public about Snapshot Wisconsin and the opportunities for involvement. This may include making phone calls, attending promotional and tabling events, helping to prepare presentations, and preparing promotional materials.
Engagement: The person in this position will interact with volunteer classifiers on the online crowdsourcing site (snapshotwisconsin.org) to answer questions, keep volunteers engaged, and remind volunteers that they must follow the community standards. In addition, this person will write blog posts and provide content for monthly online newsletters.
This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
