Vote for five new CSA Board members (2018 cohort)

Return to Blog

The CSA Nominations Committee has narrowed a pool of 30 nominees to a ballot of 10 individuals. Now we are turning to the dues-paying members of the Citizen Science Association (CSA) to select five (5) individuals who will join the CSA Board of Directors for a three year term beginning in May.

Anyone invested in the future of this field can become a dues-paying member and vote before the ballot closes on Monday, May 7th EXTENDED to Friday, May 11th (midnight Pacific Time). Relevant links are at the end of this post – please read the following important background information before casting a ballot.

We rely on Board members to shape the future of the Association by establishing policy, securing funding, and ensuring that the organization can achieve its mission (read more about Board member responsibilities here). We rely on you to select Board members who reflect your interests and can best serve the field in carrying out these critical tasks.

We have three (3) outgoing Board members (details here), one open seat, and will add one new position to the board. Thus, this vote is to elect five (5) new Board members. Of the slate of ten candidates, the five candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to join the CSA Board. In putting together this ballot from the rich field of nominees, we have been guided by priorities needed for Board development.

The board has identified several areas of experience or expertise that are critical to enhance board membership and Association development. Those are:

  • Fund development experience (with emphasis on cultivation of individual donors, planned giving, and/or development of membership programs)
  • Administration/management
  • Early stage organizational set-up
  • Financial oversight
  • Understanding of citizen science community needs
  • Early stage organizational set-up
  • Strategic planning

We ask all voters to consider these priorities, and their responsibility for CSA’s future growth and development.

Available below are the candidates’ resumes and statements addressing two questions about the citizen science and how they can serve the field. These resources are also hyperlinked from the ballot.

Voting will close on Monday, May 7th.
